People protest, block NH after youth’s death

SAMBA, Aug 12:  Irate people came out on the road along with dead body after an unknown bus crushed a youth of the area to death  on Jammu-Pathankote National Highway in Vijaypur area  and disappeared from the spot.
The trouble started after a bus coming from Kathua side hit a motor-cycle killing     a youth namely, Sunny (16), son of  Kewel Krishan of village Sangwal near Gurha Slathian on the spot and causing injuries to his associate, Ramesh Kumar, son of  Yash Pal of the same village at around 4.30 pm. Ramesh was later rushed to GMC hospital Jammu in view of his critical condition.
After the villagers came to known about the tragic death of young Sunny, they rushed to the spot. The body had been shifted to Vijaypur hospital by police. The irate villagers then took the body which was kept in an ambulance and moved to the National Highway at around 6. 15 pm. They raised barricades at Vijaypur  Chowk and blocked National Highway. They started shouting  slogans against police for its failure to trace the bus and arrest its driver.
The traffic on busy highway came to halt. A large number of vehicles got stranded for over two hours. SHO Vijaypur, Tilak Raj Bhardwaj and DySP Ashok Singh rushed to spot but the people refused to move and said that they want arrest of driver and seizure of vehicle. They continued their protest.
Later, SSP Samba Israr Khan, ADC Samba BS Jamwal and ACR, B L Sharma also arrived  and they persuaded the agitating people and expressed sympathy on the death of  young boy. They assured to trace the vehicle shortly and arrest the accused driver. The people lifted dharna at around 8.30 pm. The SPP said that policemen  were asked to maintain restrain and not to use any force on agitators to clear the highway as matter pertained to tragic and shocking death of young boy. It took about an hour to clear the traffic jam on the busy highway to the local police and traffic police men.
