People protest as boy’s body found in Nallah

RAJOURI, Dec 20: The people from Manjakote area today held strong protest and blocked Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch highway after the dead body of a 19-year-old boy was recovered from the nearby Nallah this morning.
Some villagers noticed the body of the boy lying in the Nallah and informed other people of the area. Later, police party reached there on receiving information. They examined the spot and the dead body and then shifted to the mortuary of the Manjakote hospital. The deceased was identified as Mohd Jahangir (19), son of Munshi Chouhan, resident of Darhal Chowkian. The boy was staying in the house of his sister at Manjakote for the past some time and was working as labourer (painter) in the area.
While the police was projecting it as case of possible suicide, the family members and relatives alleged that boy was murdered. The family had some altercation with the SHO and other cops at hospital. Later, they came out on the Jammu-Poonch highway and blocked it. They started protest demonstration raising slogans against the local police. The movement of traffic remained disrupted on this busy highway for about an hour.
Later, SDPO Manjakote, Zakir Shaheen reached there and he assured the people to hold proper investigation into the case. He said that the police team under his supervision will probe the case properly without any impartially. The people then lifted dharna and allowed movement of traffic. The body after postmortem and performing legal formalities by police was handed over to the family members.
