JAMMU, June 7: Hundreds of people held protest at Bagh-e-Bahu and demanded closure of wine shops.
Large number of people including women from Bagh-e-Bahu and Satwari assembled near main gate of Bagh-e-Bahu and raised slogans demanding closure of the wine shops. They also blocked the vehicular movement on the road leading of Bahu Fort temple and also distributed pamphlets among the commuters to create awareness about the ill-effects of the liquor.

While speaking, Ranjit Singh, a social worker, who has launched a crusade against liquor mafia demanded closure of the wine shops in the State of Jammu and Kashmir as these are effecting the life of the people and disturbing peace in the family.
Later, the social activist and anti alcohol crusader intensified campaign by reaching to Bakshi Nagar area, where he also entered in GMC and distributed pamphlets to attendants of several patients who had been victims of alcohol and other allied intoxicant items.
To create mass awareness, Ranjit Singh also distributed pamphlets and posters among the people by visiting door to door.
Ranjit Singh informed that that his door to door campaign would last for fifteen days and then after on sixteenth day he would sit on hunger strike till death. He said that despite giving ultimatum to State dispensation in this regard nothing has done and none has turned up to discuss the issue.
Ranjit Singh urged upon the young generation, especially Muslim community to come forward and participate in this noble mission so that coming generation would remember the present society for its contribution.
Ranjit Singh advised youngsters that if Bihar, Gujarat, Nichobar and Andaman and other States could ban the liquor sale why not J&K. He said it is the Jammu region which has become hub of illicit activities including liquor menace.
