MENDHAR, Apr 9: The people from Chhajla and adjoining areas today held protest demonstration at Mankote and blocked Mendhar-KG-Poonch road for over two hours.
Reports said that people from Chhajla area residing along the local river today came at tehsil headquarter Mankote and sat on dharna on the road. They held strong protest demonstration against Flood Control Department for abandoning protection work along the river. They said that due to floods during last one year, over two dozen families are facing threat to their lives as flood has caused extensive soil erosion.
They pointed out that recently local Flood Control authorities started some protection work in the area but they abandoned the task, leaving over a dozen families on the mercy of God. They demanded that protection work be launched there on war footing. The agitating people disrupted movement of traffic from 9 am to 11.15 am.
Later Tehsildar Mankote and SHO Mendhar reached the spot and they pacified the public. On their assurance, they lifted dharna from the road.
