SAMBA, Aug 25: People held protest over shortage of drinking water and blocked the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway at Ghagwal here.
A large number of people including women and children from village Sandhi assembled at Ghagwal on the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway and held protest over non-availability of drinking water from the past three months.
The protestors raised slogans against the Jal Shakti Department and district administration.
The protestors said that they are facing acute shortage of drinking water from the past three months and no one is listening to their issue.
“There are around 150 houses in village Sandhi and all are facing acute shortage of drinking water from the past three months”, the protestors said, adding that the situation has turned worst, which has forced them to hold protest and block the highway.
The worst sufferers are the women folk as they face manifold problems in their routine life, the protestors said.
Later, SDM Ghagwal Ramkesh Sharma, BDC Chairman Vijay Tagotra and Jal Shakti Department officials rushed to the spot and assured the protesting people of redressing their issue in the shortest possible time.
On the assurance, the protestors dispersed and vehicular movement was restored on the highway.
