People protest against water crisis

MENDHAR, June 25: The people from Mankote area today held protest on Mendhar-Poonch road and disrupted movement of traffic for about two hours this evening.
They were shouting slogans against the PHE authorities for their failure to provide drinking water to the public of the area. The protesting villagers alleged that for the last about two weeks they are facing such problem and the matter was also brought to the notice of concerned field staff but they failed to ensure water supply. The people have been left to suffer during these hot summer days. A large number of vehicles got stranded on the road.
Later, SHO Mendhar Anzir Mir and Tehsildar Mankote Shahzad Khan reached the spot and they pacified the agitating people. On the assurance these officers, the public then lifted dharna and allowed movement of vehicles.
Meanwhile, people from Harni area of Mendhar are also badly suffering as the local PHE water pumping station went out of order about a week back. The people lodged protest with the local administration and demanded that water supply be restored and pump set which went out of order, be repaired or replaced.
