POONCH/ RAJOURI, June 11: The people from Harni area today held strong protest against PHE Department and blocked Mendhar- Surankot road for about six hours while similar protest was held at Nagrota village in Rajouri today.
Reports said that people from Harni and adjoining areas came out on the road and raised barricades at around 8 am today. They stopped the movement of vehicles on this road. They were shouting slogans against the PHE authorities, Sub Divisional Administration Mendhar, DC Poonch and PHE Minister.
The villagers alleged that there was acute shortage of water in entire Harni area for the last over one and half month. The concerned PHE officials were requested several times to ensure supply of water but nobody bothers. Even the Mendhar Sub Division and Poonch District Administration failed to ensure essential supplies to the public. SHO and Naib Tehsildar and the Tehsildar reached the spot and asked the people to lift dharna but the angry mob refused to listen to the Tehsildar Mendhar and SHO concerned and continued protest. They demanded that AEE PHE should be brought at the spot and give assurance. They also said that many water pipes have been broken and leaking. Several water pumping stations are out of order. PHE Mechanical staff, concerned JE or AEE are least bothered. Over 10,000 to 12000 population is badly suffering.
Later, SDM Mendhar Sher Singh, SHO Shahid Nahim along with AEE PHE reached there at around 2.30 pm and on their assurances, the public lifted dharna.
Meanwhile, people from Nagrota village near Palma in Rajouri also held protest against PHE authorities and blocked Rajouri-Kotranka-Budhal road for about two hours. They were raising slogans against Executive Engineer PHE Rajouri and PHE Minister. The traffic on the road remained disrupted between 1.30 pm and 3.30 pm. Later, with the intervention of SHO Rajouri and AC Revenue the public lifted dharna.
