People protest as woman dies of docs’ negligence

RAJOURI, Apr 6: A young woman today died of excess bleeding after she delivered a baby in district hospital Rajouri in Jammu region.
Sources said that woman identified as Mamta Sharma (25), wife of Deepak Kumar, resident of Dassal was referred to Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu from Rajouri hospital as the patient had excess bleeding after delivering a baby. She delivered baby last night but due to lack of proper care at Rajouri hospital, her condition deteriorated. Then doctors there, in hush- hush manner referred her to Jammu despite opposition by family members today.
The woman died on way to Jammu. The family has alleged negligence of doctors and staged protest against the health department by keeping body near Salani Bridge at Rajouri this evening. The movement of vehicles on busy Jammu-Poonch highway was disrupted by agitating relatives and villagers for about two hours.
Later, DC and SSP Rajouri reached the spot and pacified the protesting villagers and assured to hold an inquiry into the matter.  The traffic on highway was restored at around 7.15 pm.
In the past three months, several  women had died of medical negligence. On March 28, a woman allegedly died due to negligence of doctors in district hospital Rajouri, while she was undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Earlier, on February 18, a woman died after she was not provided timely medicare in Rajouri district hospital, following which the attendants ransacked the hospital infrastructure. The lady doctor was also placed under suspension.
