JAMMU, Oct 22: A large number of people who visited RTO’s office yesterday for installing computer registration number plate of their vehicles were put to an embarrassing situation as entire office was closed due to week end holiday despite the fact that they have been given the letters by the concerned agency to visit on the particular date for installation of the number plates of their vehicles.
As the hapless owners of these vehicles reached the concerned office early in the morning to get the service on the basis of first come first serve they were astonished to see that the office was closed and no one was present there to perform the job.
On contacting the concerned authorities they were informed that office will not open today as it is a holiday. However on their query that the office had given them date of Sunday in its letters, the authorities had no reply to satisfy them. But no one from the organization turned up to do the job with the result the hapless owners of these two and four wheelers were left with no alternative but to return. Some of the people had come from far off places like Chowki Choura, Jorian, Khour etc in Akhnoor tehsil.
One Madan Lal who too had come for installation of computer number plate of his vehicle said “the attitude of the officials has put us in an embarrassing situation as they had given us the letters to approach the office on this date” while showing a paper given to him by the concerned Department.
“This way they have wasted our precious time and we cancelled all our engagements to visit the RTO office for installation of computerized number plate which has been made mandatory by the Government but they cheated us for no fault of ours” he added.
He while holding the authorities of the organisation responsible said this is total callousness on their part as they are irresponsive to public concerns.
