People ransack health centre, ambulance over youth’s death

JAMMU, Feb 23: The irate people ransacked Public Health Centre (PHC) at Pargwal in tehsil Akhnoor and also damaged an ambulance, after a youth died due to alleged negligence of the doctors.
As per sources, 27-year-old Mohan Lal alias Monu, son of Gian Chand of Pargwal late last night met with an accident when his motorbike rammed into the wall at a petrol pump.
He received critical head injuries and was rushed to Primary Health Centre (PHC) Pargwal, but the victim died as the doctors were reportedly absent from the duty.
Raising slogans against the health authorities and management of the PHC, the irate family members, relatives and people along with the dead body of the deceased person held protest.
The irate protestors ransacked the window panes, equipments and furniture of the health centre and also damaged the ambulance.
The protestors alleged that there is no proper facility in the PHC Pargwal and no doctor is available in the hospital during late hours.
“No one keeps check on the staff appointed in the PHC and taking the benefit of the same, the staff including doctors stays at their home”, they added.
The relatives of the deceased alleged that due to negligence by the doctors, their kin has died and demanded probe into the matter, so that the doctors behind the negligence death could be punished.
Later the protestors along with the body of the youth assembled on Pargwal-Akhnoor road and disrupted the vehicular movement demanding immediate action against the doctors responsible for the death of the youth.
On getting information, a police team led by SP Rural Mohan Lal Kaith and CMO Jammu Javed Chib rushed to the spot and pacified the protestors.
On the assurance, the protestors dispersed.
BMO lodged a complaint with police against the people behind ransacking the hospital.
When contacted, CMO Jammu Dr Javed Chib told Excelsior that the youth died on the spot after the accident as he had received critical head injuries.
“I along with other officers of the Health Department rushed to the spot and pacified the agitators”, he added.
