SRINAGAR, Aug 9: Former Chief Minister and the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference vice president, Omar Abdullah today said that people in J&K are ready to teach BJP a lesson in the forthcoming elections.
Addressing a meeting of Zone and district presidents of Kashmir Province at party office Srinagar today, Omar directed the party cadre to enhance their activities and public outreach to remain in touch with the masses at the grassroots level.
“In view of the upcoming ULB and Panchayat elections, it is essential for you to stay proactive in preparing people for participation in the democratic process. NC is ready for every election be it Panchayat, ULB, BDC and Assembly elections,” Omar said.
“Our party is key to the revival and restoration of J&K’s economy and pride. Our party cadre is prepared for the polls whenever they are held. People across J&K are also bracing for teaching the ruling party a lesson through their vote,” the former NC president asserted.
Later, while responding to media queries outside the party office Omar said that the ongoing hearing on Article 370 is a test of the Constitution. “This is not the test of Late Sheikh Sahib’s decision but the test of the Constitution because the way Kapil Sibal has argued on the petition of NC, and the way Gopal Subaramanium is arguing today, it is obvious that what happened with J-K was unconstitutional and illegal. We want the Constitution and the law to be upheld. It is not further a test than that. It is a test of the strength of the Constitution, that is all,” Omar added.
The meeting was marked by threadbare discussions on organizational issues and upcoming ULB and Panchayat Polls.
The meeting was chaired by Party general secretary Ali Mohd Sagar while senior leaders Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Shammi Oberoi, Nasir Aslam Wani, Tanvir Sadiq, Sakina Itoo, Mudassar Shahmiri, Ali Mohd Dar, Javed Dar, Dr Bashir Ahmed Veeri, Showkat Mir and district presidents Dr Sajjad Shafi, Gh Mohiuddin Mir, Showkat Hussain, Altaf Ahmad Wani, Peer Afaq, GR Naaz, GN Bhat were present in the meeting.
