POONCH, June 6: The people from Padma Shree Aawardee Shrimati Mali’s village, by taking an initiative of repairing road themselves, constructed retaining wall to avoid accidents on Arai Katha to Arai village road of Tehsil Mandi in Poonch district.
Elected representatives, elderly persons, youth and other people of the village comprising of three Panchayats construct retaining wall near Choudhary Mohalla and adjoining areas, filled soil and stones in the damaged portion from where even a small private car was crossing very narrowly risking the lives of commuters.
Sarpanch Arai Malkan Aslam Malik, Dr Masood Choudhary, Mufti Nazeer Ahmed and other prominent people said that this road is in dilapidated condition from 2014-15, when flood and cloud burst damaged it and no proper construction or repair work has been done on it after that to make road better for travelling despite the fact that tender of good amount was floated by the PMGSY department for work on this road.
“When nobody in the Government, administration and concerned department listened to our voices since long, we today decided to start and gradually took in hands the repairie work on this road at least on those areas where the chances of accidents are higher, and hope that the administration will realize its responsibility and take the immediate steps to repair the road”, they added.
Meanwhile Tehsildar Mandi, Shahzad Latief Khan along with PMGSY official visited the road site and asked department to repair and maintain the road, while the official on spot said that the tender process of some work has been already started and soon work will be started.
