SAMBA, July 19: Frustrated with frequent breakdown of power transformer, villagers of Chack Manga today held a protest against the Power Development Department (PDD) and disrupted traffic movement on busy Jammu-Pathankot National Highway, at Samba.
About 50-60 residents of village Chack Manga this afternoon assembled at main chowk Samba and staged protest demonstration against PDD. The protestors also blocked National Highway and disrupted traffic movement for about 15-20 minutes and raised slogans against PDD authorities.
They alleged that in last 20 days the power transformer of the area has broken down about three- four times and after a gap of many days, the power was restored only yesterday by installing the repaired transformer, which did not last for about 4 hours and broke down after few hours of installation.
The irate residents threatened total blockage of the busy National Highway in case the PDD did not upgrade the transformer.
The protestors later dispersed after SHO Samba, Inspector Sanjeev Singh Chib reached the spot and assured the protestors to take up their demand and grievances with higher authorities of PDD for proper redressal.
