JAMMU, Sept 8: Due to recent incessant rains and flash floods, the water supply to various areas in Jammu region remained crippled for the past few days causing enormous inconvenience to the people, who strongly cursed the PHE Department for their complete failure to restore power supply.
Due to non availability of drinking water for the past over four days, people are facing manifold problems.
However, PHE Department has claimed that 70 per cent water supply will be restored by tomorrow evening.
Official sources told Excelsior that at Sitlee Water Filtration Plant, only 8 pumps are working, which are generating 4 to 5 million gallons presently, which is also a matter of concern.
He said that the Tawi Filtration Plant has been completely submerged in water, which has affected the water supply to Old City areas including Panjtirthi, Pakki Dakki, Parade, Purani Mandi, etc.
“Most of the areas of Jammu are not getting water supply, but in some areas pipe water supply has been restored”, sources added.
They further stated that the areas of old City, Janipur, Roop Nagar, Bantalab, Keran, Muthi, Bhatindi and Sainik Colony are worst affected, adding that Department’s, Army and private water tankers have been pressed into service to fed these areas.
However, people disclosed that there was absolutely no water supply from tankers in any part of Jammu and the PHE was only making tall claims in this regard.
They charged the PHE department with being extremely careless in taking steps to restore water supply. The PHE Department is least concerned about the restoration of water supply in most parts of the City, they said.
When contacted, Chief Engineer, PHE Department Susheel Aima told that water supply to 70 per cent areas will be restored tomorrow. He said that presently water tankers are serving water to various areas, adding that pipe water supply has been restored to some areas. He appealed the people to cooperate with the department and use water judiciously.
