Phase-II of Electoral Awareness launched at Thakrakote

REASI, Feb 18 : Second phase of Jashn-e-Jamhuriat a mega campaign under Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) of Election Commission of India was today launched at remote Thakrakote village where more than 4000 people from 12 Panchayats participated. District Election Officer accompanied by Electoral Registration Officer, Assistant Electoral Registration Officer and senior officers of district administration held day long interaction with the gathering and briefed about latest initiatives of the Election Commission for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
A number of issues related to various demands of the people in this remote area were also redressed in the meeting. Enrollment of new voters and coverage of left out voters was emphasized on this occasion. An oath was administered to the gathering by the Electoral Registration Officer in Urdu and Hindi. Voter lists of all the 12 panchayats were also displayed for awareness of the public. Women participated in large numbers. Hundreds of peoples walked for more than 30 KM to reach the venue.
The DEO emphasized on higher turnout and called upon the public representatives and political parties to encourage the people to turn up in greater numbers during the Lok Sabha elections. He asked the voters to participate actively in the second phase of the ambitious campaign Jashn-e-Jamhuriat / Reasi- Celebrating Democracy and ensure greater participation. He further emphasized on ethical voting and warned that any kind of unethical or illegal practice to woo the voters or influence the electorate will be dealt strictly and stern action will be taken.
A special registration booth was also established along with stalls for electoral awareness. Various speakers expressed their views in Urdu, Hindi, Gojri and Pahari languages.
