JAMMU, Mar 3: Devendra Triguna (Padma Bhushan), patron of AMAM and president of All India Ayurvedic Congress stressed the need to promote Ayurveda in the world.
While participating in a webinar organised on `Potential of Ayush and Ayurveda Sector’ today, Triguna said that quality of the Ayurvedic services and medicine should be of utmost importance. He said UT of J&K is blessed with best location and climate , high altitude areas are best for research and preserving medicinal plants and medicines. He emphasizes on promotion of exports and Government centres to be established nearby tourist sites for promoting tourism.
Pradeep Multani, president, PHDCCI, mentioned that the J&K can be measured by the historical fact that the popularity and practice of Ayurvedic System of Healthcare was established in Ancient Kashmir. Ayurveda had been backbone of healthcare activities in past but the Universal Health coverage initiative reiterates commitment for providing health services for all the people without suffering any financial hardship. Also the universal health coverage cannot be assured merely through medicines, treatments, hospitals and insurance provisions. Today 70% of population spends out of own pockets for basic health care thus facing financial hardship. He said with a wealth of 6,600 medicinal plants, India is the second largest exporter of AYUSH and herbal products in the world.
Dr Mohan Singh, Director Indian System of Medicines Ayush, J&K, raised some issues faced by this sector in terms of infrastructure like lack of colleges and high tech equipment’s for research which is a main cause for lagging behind. He also mentioned that students have to go out of UT to study Ayurvedic subjects so he emphasizes on more colleges and universities to be opened up.
PHDCCI chairman Jammu, Rahul Sahai in his inaugural address set the context of Webinar by stating that PHDCCI tried to involve all the stake holders for presenting their views , suggestions that how policies should be made in synchronisation with stake holders to facilitate prospects and deal with the challenges in AYUSH sector in UT. He further added that AYUSH healthcare has no FDI confines. It has an estimated value of 10 $ billion and will increase by 50% over a period of five years.
BS Raina PHDCCI chairman Kashmir emphasis on practicing Ayurveda as we have forgotten Ayurveda, so we should promote its awareness and revival by engaging youth in the awareness programs, opening new colleges and research related to Ayurveda. He invited universities and Wellness Center to be set up in the UT for creating awareness among the students.
Dr Shashi Sudan, Principal, Government Medical College Jammu, Govt Ayurvedic Medical College cum Hospital, mentioned that time has come to provide adequate weightage to the traditional Indian system of medicines and to integrate Ayurveda , Unani and homeopathy as it prevent and cure non communicable diseases.
Dr Sharada, Principal Jammu Institute of Ayurveda and Research, gave a detailed presentation about Ayurveda learning and acquiring higher degrees and research programmes in Ayurveda and enlisted the interventions that are required for further up skilling the Ayurveda in J&K. She mentioned the preventive and health promotive aspects of Ayurveda and Yoga are very much relevant in the present scenario of healthcare.
Dr Nasser Hakim Founding Director Dr Nasser’s Unani & Panchkarma Group of Hospitals, Dr Sahil Gupta, BHMS/MD Homeopathy Jammu, Prof Sheikh Bilal Ahmed Regional Director, (National Medicinal Plants Board) Regional-cum-Facilitation Center Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh; Dr Shazia Noor, Principal Kashmir Tibbiya College Hospital and Research Center also spoke on the occasion.
