JAMMU, Mar 19:  The protest programme of  the  daily rated, ITI trained and Community Participation (CP) workers of the PHE department at B C Road office complex continued on the sixth consecutive day today.
Today agitating workers in semi-naked position held strong protest outside Chief Engineer’s office and then sat on day long dharna,  in support of their long pending demands. They raised loud slogans against the Administration and previous Governments.  These workers are protesting under the leadership of Tanveer Hussain, Union president.
A large number of temporary PHE workers from various districts  and divisions of the department including Kathua, Samba, Udhampur and Reasi  are participating in the protest programme.
They are demanding framing of regularization policy for all community participation workers,  daily rated,  ITI trained and need base workers. They also demanded release of pending wages of nearly 35 months of these workers. They warned to intensify their struggle in near future.
Several trade unionists addressed the gathering and  alleged that despite assurances by the former PHE Minister, Finance Minister and even the Chief Engineer, their issues have remained un-resolved. They  demanded that a policy be framed for the regularization of all type of temporary workers and their fate be decided once for all.
Tanveer Hussain alleged that the workers had launched three day strike programme and dharna to draw the attention of the Government towards their demands but after seeing  the cold response of the senior officers, it has been declared as indefinite now.
He further said the workers are on the roads. They are demanding their hard earned wages. It is unfortunate that Government instead of releasing their wages is trying to suppress them. The workers and their families are facing starvation but the Government is least bothered.
