JAMMU, Sept 15:  PHE daily wagers, ITI trained  and community participation  workers  today went on indefinite strike and held strong protest demonstration at BC Road PHE complex here today.
These temporary  PHE workers, who had given ultimatum to the Government,  have suspend water supply in  the entire Jammu province from today onwards. The workers from various PHE Divisions and Sub Divisions of the region thronged Chief Engineer  PHE office here in large number  and launched their protest in the morning.
The workers, under the banner of  All J&K PHE Daily Wagers, ITI Trained  & CP Workers Association assembled at B C Road complex and started protest demonstration followed by day long dharna.  Tanveer Hussain, president ;  Deepak Gupta vice president  and Subash Chander general secretary of the Association were  leading the protest. The workers were shouting slogans against State Government, PHE Minister and Finance Minister. They alleged that despite three months time given by the Government and PHE Minister  Sham Choudhary,  their issues remained unresolved.  They had also served ultimatum to the Government, but it gave deaf ear towards the issue.
Addressing large gathering of workers, Tanveer claimed that about 23,000 PHE daily wagers have today gone on indefinite strike (Kam Chorh Hartal). Today was the first day of  their protest programme and it will be continued till their demands are met.
He alleged that process of  biometrics  as claimed by the Minister to be completed in three months has been abandoned. No separate Wage Head for the PHE daily wagers/ ITI trained and CP workers was created.  Their pending wages of nearly 38 months have not been released till today and all the promises made by the Government have proved to be the cruel joke once again.  The Government is continuously befooling them.  No wages were released even on the festivals.
He said 70 % of the water supply schemes are being run by the temporary/ daily wage staff  and Government will be responsible for any water crisis.
