PHE employees cancel May Day rally, discuss demands

UDHAMPUR, Apr 29: PHE employees of district Udhampur in a meeting held here today under the chairmanship of trade union leader (Jammu province), Som Nath decided to cancel May rally this year due to the lockdown forced by Coronavirus pandemic.
Som Nath appealed all the employees and workers to keep 2 minutes silence on the eve of May Day at their present place (either home or on duty) to pay homage to the martyrs of 1886 at Chicago (USA) and demanded the Government to declare May Day as gazetted holiday.
The meeting also discussed long pending demands of the PHE employees including meeting shortage of staff in the department, holding DPC meeting twice in a year, change of designation of workers as per nature of working and release of pending wages.
Addressing the workers, Som Nath urged the Government to regularize CP/ITI/Land cases workers without any delay, implement Minimum Wages Act in the J&K, revoke Government order for freezing DA of the employees and start biometric attendance of imprest workers engaged in the department as they are not being paid wages.
