PHE employees discuss demands

JAMMU, July 12: Provincial working committee of Water Works (PHE) Employees Association which met here under the chairmanship of Shiv Kumar Sharma, State president of Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), unanimously decided to hold protest demonstration on July 20, 2016 outside the office of Chief Engineer, PHE Complex, B C Road here.
The representatives from all PHE Divisions and various districts including Udhampur, Doda, Ramban, Kishtwar, Reasi, Poonch, Rajouri, Samba, Kathua and Jammu attended the meeting to discuss the demands and problems being faced by the workers.
The participants expressed concern and dismay over apathetic attitude of the concerned authorities towards their pending demands including Release of pending pay of daily wagers/ CP Workers; Regularization of daily wagers/ CP Workers; Conducting DPC meeting of all cadres; Implementation of Minimum Wages Act, Revision of sanctioned strength of the department, Meeting shortage of staff; Change of designation as per nature of the job being performed by the workers; Payment to those engaged in lieu of land donated to the department; Implementation of 7th Pay Commission and Enhancement of minimum wages to Rs 450 per day.
Shiv Kumar Sharma while addressing said the recommendations of 7th pay panel could have given some relief to employees and pensioners but the statement of Chief Minister has disappointed them. He added that inadequate strength of clerical staff in some divisions has made the establishment suffer as a result of which completion of service books is pending. He demanded that department must meet the shortage of clerical as well as field staff to effectively run the water supply schemes.
