UDHAMPUR, May 26: A deputation of PHE Employees Association met Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz under the chairmanship of Som Nath, district president of the association and discussed with him the demands of employees with the hope of an early favourable action.
The demands projected pertained to immediate release of wages, pending for the past about 18 months; Regularization of all daily wagers, ITI workers, community participation workers who have completed seven years services as daily wager under SRO 64; Change of designation as per nature of job; Convening of DPC meeting which has not been held for the last 15 years at division and provincial levels; and Provision of new staff to be kept on new water supply schemes, as crores of rupees are spent on new water schemes but no new worker is engaged to man those schemes.
Besides hundreds of employees retire every year and sudden death cases also add to the shortage of staff, which affects smooth functioning of the water supply schemes, the deputation added, demanding further enhancement in daily minimum wages from Rs 150 to Rs 300 keeping in view the ever-increasing price index.
Association president Som Nath further appealed Prof Soz for fulfillment of the genuine demands.
