PHE Task Force to seize on-line boosters: Gurezi

SRINAGAR, June 13: Minister of State for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Nazir Ahmad Gurezi directed the PHE authorities to gear up their field functionaries and continue with the task force constituted to seize on-line boosters and PVC pipes to stop misuse of water for watering of lawns, gardens, washing of vehicles, constructional activities and other illegal use. He also asked them to make aware general public about the misuse of drinking water as per the J&K Water Resources (Regulation & Management) Act 2010.
This direction was given by the Minister while chairing a meeting of officers of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department convened to review the status of ongoing water supply schemes and other activities of the department.
Chief Engineer, Kashmir PHE Department Ahmad Muzaffar Lankar, Superintendent Engineer Hydraulic District Srinagar/ Ganderbal, Fida Mohammad Farouqi, Executive Engineer Water Works Division Bilal Rasool and other officers and engineers of the PHE department attended the meeting.
It was informed in the meeting that the Water Supply Scheme Sukhnag and WSS Tangnar taken up at a cost of Rs.121.00 crores and Rs.148.37 crores respectively are nearing completion. Rs.160.83 Crores in aggregate have been spent on these schemes.
The Minister directed the concerned to speed up the pace of work and complete WSS Sukhnag within a month and WSS Tangnar by the end of September this year. He said upon commissioning of these water supply schemes, the tail end areas and shortage areas like Shalteng, Bemina, Tengpora, Hyderpora, Batmaloo, Narkara, Gungbugh, Natipora, Sonawar and all such areas will be benefited.
While taking review of the facility of tanker services, it was informed in the meeting that the department has already put in place, a sufficient fleet of   tankers to address the demand from deficit and shortage areas of the city and its outskirts on a permanent basis.
The Minister while appreciating the officers directed the concerned to ensure tanker services are run as per the present policy.
