PHE workers flay Govt, project demands

KATHUA, Dec 11: PHE workers from district Kathua have demanded regularization of daily wagers, early conduct of DPC and repairing and proper upkeep of damaged pumping stations/ tube wells in the area.
In a general body meeting of the PHE Workers Welfare Association held at PHE Division here today under the chairmanship of Baldev Singh, the members discussed the burning issues of the employees in detail. The district president of the body, Joginder Kumar Sharma while speaking on the occasion criticized the Government for ignoring the pending demands of the employees of the department.
He pointed out that many daily rated employees have completed more than five years but they have not been regularized. He demanded that concerned authorities must maintain the seniority list of the permanent employees. All the vacant posts be filled up and DPC be conducted at the earliest, they demanded.
The other demands included repair of all the defunct/ damaged pumping stations/ tube wells, providing torches, heaters/ charcoal, sitting benches etc for the field staff deployed at various pumping stations and tube wells. It was also stressed that salaries of the employees of both permanent and daily rated workers be disbursed before 5th of every month.
Later, they submitted memorandum to the Executive Engineers PHE, Civil & Mechanical with charter of demands. They warned that if the demands were not  considered before December 20, the Association will be compelled to launch agitation. Pritam Singh, general secretary, Major Singh and Onkar Sharma also addressed the gathering.
