MENDHAR, July 21: The PHE workers of Mendhar Sub Division today held strong protest against the police authorities and blocked road for about two hours.
The PHE employees including temporary/ daily rated workers led by Union leader, Abdul Hamid Khan earlier assembled at PHE Sub Division complex in the morning and then moved to Dak Bungalow. From there they moved in the shape of a protest rally towards main chowk Mendhar and then blocked road at around 12 noon.
The protesting employees raised barricades on the road and stalled the movement of vehicles. They were shouting slogans against Mendhar and Gursai Police. The Union leader alleged that on June 14, 2016, the AEE PHE Mendhar and JE, were beaten up by the people in Gursai area when they had gone there to attend public call. Six persons were also identified by the officers and a written complaint was given to the SHO Gursai and then SDPO Mendhar Shahid Nahim but the police tried to shield the culprits and no FIR was entertained. Despite reminder by the AEE and intervention of X-En PHE, Poonch the SHO and SDPO did not bother to take action.
Later, SDM Mendhar Thakur Sher Singh intervened and assured to take legal action against the accused. He called the Union members to his office through Naib Tehsildar and held meeting. SDPO Mendhar was also summoned by the SDM. The SDPO was asked to lodge and FIR and take legal action against the accused involved in the attack.
The PHE employees Union gave four days’ ultimatum to the Police failing which they will stop the water supply in the entire Mendhar Sub Division.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Poonch, M H Malik said that he has directed the SDPO concerned to lodge and FIR against the accused persons and book them under law.
