JAMMU, Mar 15: The PHE daily wagers, ITI trained and land donor workers today held strong protest demonstration at BC Road PHE Complex here today.
A large number of temporary workers under the banner of All J&K PHE ITI Trained, CP Workers and Land Donors Association, led by Tanveer Hussain, its president, assembled in front of the office of Chief Engineer Jal Shakti/ PHE Deptt at BC Road Complex of the PHE, near General Bus Stand here in the morning and held strong protest. They were shouting slogans in support of their demands.
The agitating workers were also carrying placards in hands depicting their demands. They raised loud slogans against the PHE authorities and LG administration. They alleged that despite assurances by the top BJP leaders – Ravinder Raina and MP Jugal Kishore, besides Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, nothing has happned till date. The protest demonstration was later converted into day- long dharna.
Several Trade Union leaders including Tanveer, Deepak Gupta, Subhash Chander, Jeevan Singh, Vijay Kumar, Bhanu Partap, Altaf Hussain, Pawan Kumar and others addressed the gathering. They alleged that the Government has failed to address their issues and release pending wages. They warned to intensify their agitation in near future.
They demanded that special provision in the upcoming J&K Budget be kept for the regularization of PHE daily wagers and releasing their pending wages; implement Minimum Wages Act in J&K as per central norms; revoke 12 vouchers issue and enact clear policy for the regularization of casual and daily rated workers in J&K.
