PIL seeking demolition of Aurangzeb’s tomb filed

MUMBAI, Mar 21: A journalist-turned-activist on Friday filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) at the Bombay High Court seeking the demolition of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s grave in Khuldabad, on the ground that the tomb lacks the “national importance” tag under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) Act, 1958.The petition, filed by activist Ketan Tirodkar, urges the court to direct the ASI to remove Aurangzeb’s tomb from the list of national monuments. It argues that the site does not align with Section 3 of the ASI Act, 1958, which designates certain ancient monuments and archaeological sites as being of national importance. The petition states that national importance refers to something of value to the entire country rather than a specific region or group. It defines significance as having an impact on the whole nation and argues that this impact should be understood positively for future generations. The petition will come up for hearing in due course.
