SRINAGAR, Oct 12: Convener, Roots in Kashmir (RIK), Vir Saraf and Director, ANHAD, Tanveer Hussain Khan have filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Kashmir Wing of High Court against the ‘illegal’ stone quarrying at the Abhinav Gupta Caves located at Beerwah in Budgam district.
In the PIL the petitioners have said that their efforts to stop the stone quarrying through administrative means have failed and they have been left with no option but to knock at the doors of justice in order to seek relief. The PIL 10/2012 with CMP 2236/2012 was filed under Article 226 of Constitution of India read with Section 103 of Constitution of Jammu & Kashmir.
The petitioners have sought directions against the respondents praying immediate closure of ‘illegal’ stone quarrying being carried out in and around the site commonly known as Abhinav Gupta caves. They have also sought directions for protection of this site and consequently declaring the same as a heritage site for the purpose of its protection as well as preservation.
