Pilgrims among commuters suffer as several Jammu trains cancelled, diverted

JAMMU, Nov 17: Thousands of commuters, including Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrims, had to suffer as Railway authorities ordered cancellation, diversion and short termination of several Jammu bound as well as Jammu originated trains due to Kissan agitation in Punjab near Dasoua on Jalandhar-Pathankot Section.
According to the authoritative sources in Ferozpur Division of the Northern Railway, 13 trains have been cancelled and 12 others diverted while short termination and short origination has been ordered for the seven each trains.
Seven trains from Jammu, which were cancelled today, included Jammu Mail Express from Katra to Delhi, Haridwar Express from Katra to Rishikesh, Durantoo Express from Jammu Tawi to Delhi, Sampark Kranti from Katra to New Delhi, Shalimar Express from Jammu Tawi to Delhi, Shri Shakti Express from Katra to New Delhi and Delhi Express from Katra to Delhi while six Jammu bound trains, including Haridwar Express from Rishikesh to Katra, Shalimar Express from Delhi to Jammu Tawi, Shri Shakti Express from New Delhi to Katra, Sampark Kranti from New Delhi to Katra, Jammu Mail from Delhi to Katra and Delhi Sarairola-Udhampur Express from Delhi to Udhampur were also cancelled.
Besides the cancellation, the Railway authorities ordered diversion of seven Jammu originated and five Jammu bound trains. These included Jammu-Banaras Express, Amritsar Jalandhar Express from Jammu Tawi to Ajmer, Sealdah Express from Jammu Tawi to Kolkata, Rajdhani Express from Jammu Tawi to New Delhi, , Jhelum Express from Jammu Tawi to Pune, Madras Express from Katra to Chennai, Jammu-Broni Express from Jammu Tawi to BJU, Pooja Express from Ajmer to Jammu Tawi, Rajdhani Express from New Delhi to Jammu Tawi, Himgiri Express from Haridwar to Jammu Tawi, Swaraj Express from Banaras to Katra and Malwa Express from Indore to Katra.
These trains have been diverted via Pathankot-Amritsar-Jalandhar section or Jalandhar -Amritsar-Pathankot Section, depending upon the situation arising out of the Kissan agitation in Punjab.
Similarly, the Railway authorities ordered short termination of seven Jammu bound trains, which included Ahmedabad-Jammu Tawi Express, Sealdah Express from Kolkata to Jammu Tawi, Jhelum Express from Pune to Jammu Tawi, Banaras-Jammu Tawi Express, Bathinda-Jammu Tawi Express, Patna-Jammu Tawi Express and Kota Express. The short termination has been given at Jalandhar Cantt, Ludhiana and Jalandhar City.
The Railway authorities also ordered short origination of one train from Jammu on November 17 and six other on November 18.
These include Jammu-Bathinda Express (November 17), Sealdah Express from Jammu Tawi to Kolkata, Jhelum Express from Jammu Tawi to Pune, Jammu Tawi-Banaras Express, Jammu Tawi Ahmedabad Express, Jammu Broni Express from Jammu Tawi to RJPB and Kota express from Katra to Kota (all on November 18).
Pertinent to mention that in support of their demands, farmers in Punjab are holding `Rail Roko Aandolan’ between Khoda Kara and Dasoua on Jalandhar-Pathankot Section and they have announced to disrupt train traffic.
Even as the Railway authorities are trying their best to intimate the passengers through SMS on their mobile phone and frequent announcements at stations for avoiding inconvenience to them, reports said that thousands of travelers are facing hard time due to sudden cancellation, diversion and short termination of the trains.
