Pipe purchase scam: Vigilance presents challan against Govt officials, suppliers

SRINAGAR, May 13: State Vigilance Organization today presented challan against a retired Executive Engineer, Draftsman, Storekeeper, Assistant Account Officer and three suppliers for excess release of payment thereby causing loss to the State exchequer to the tune of about Rs 20 lakh.
The challan against  Ab Aziz Kashmiri,  the then executive engineer special sub division Bandipora (now retired), Mohammad Subhan Bhat,  the then Draftsman Special Sub-division Bandipora, Saif-u-Din Mir, the  then storekeeper special sub-division Bandipora, Nazir Ahmad Jan,  the then Assistant Accounts Officer Special Sub-division Bandipora, Naseer Ahmad Mir of  Bandipora (Supplier), Mohammad Amin Dar of  Bandipora (Supplier) and Gh Nabi Tantray of  Bandipora (Supplier), was produced  in the Court of Special Judge Anti Corruption Srinagar in case FIR No 41/2006 P/S VOK.
The accused public servants, while abusing their official positions, had hatched a criminal conspiracy with each other during the month of March 2006 and  shown purchased Pipe and Pipe specials worth Rs 72,79,455/- instead of Rs 52,81,163/. They released the excess payment in favour of the suppliers thereby causing loss to the State exchequer to the tune of Rs 19, 98,292.
