Piyush Goyal, Russian deputy PM discuss potential areas of cooperation

VLADIVOSTOK, RUSSIA/NEW DELHI: Setting the stage for further strengthening of bilateral ties, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yury Trutnev on Monday and discussed potential areas of cooperation between India and the Russian Far East.
Mr Goyal is leading a delegation of Chief Ministers of States and business representatives to Vladivostok in the Russian Far East from August 11-13 to explore investment opportunities and strike close partnerships with the Far East provinces.
Mr Goyal addressed India’s largest business delegation to any country at Vladivostok to explore business opportunities in areas of Mining, infrastructure, energy, services, healthcare, agri business and manufacturing.
The Commerce Minister was joined by Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, his counterparts — Vijay Rupani in Gujarat, Manohar Lal Khattar in Haryana, and Yogi Adityanath in Uttar Pradesh while addressing the business delegation from India on strengthening business ties with Russia’s Far East Region.
Mr Goyal and Mr Trutnev addressed the plenary “India-Russia cooperation in the Russian Far East”.
The Chief Ministers are accompanied by business delegations who will engage with officials and businessmen from the provinces in Russia’s eastern most territory.
Mr Adityanath addressed the sectoral session on agriculture, food processing and renewable energy while Mr Khattar spoke on oil and gas with business representatives of India and Russia.
Mr Sawant addressed the sectoral session on minerals, metals, rare-earths and fisheries while Mr Rupani talked on diamond trade with business representatives of India and Russia.
Mr Goyal was welcomed by Russian Far East Minister Alexander Kozlov and Governor of Primorye Oleg Kozhemyako.
The Commerce and Industry Minister’s visit is a precursor to the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Vladivostok in early September for the 5th edition of the Eastern Economic Forum where he will be the chief guest for the 20th edition of the Forum.
It is an international forum held every year in Vladivostok, Russia, to support the economic development of Russia’s Far East region and to expand international cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.
