KATHUA, July 28: District Development Commissioner, Kathua, Ramesh Kumar today chaired a meeting to discuss the implementation of flagship programme “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” in the district.
He threw light on the importance of gender ratio and the consequences of its imbalance. The meeting discussed in detail the measures for effective implementation of the scheme in the district for which a plan was rolled out with the aim to improve the gender ratio in the district.
Kumar informed that mega awareness programmes at every tehsil will be held under which signature campaign, baby girl shows, nukkad nataks and painting competitions will be organized to educate and sensitize every stakeholders of the society.
It was decided that for the mega awareness programme, the publicity schemes of Government and Banks would be converged to create mass awareness. He also stressed on making provision for on-spot issuance of income certificates for female applicants.
The DDC called for organizing educative sessions and programmes at village level involving PRIs and field level officials. The CMO was directed to aware people regarding PNDT Act and take the help of ASHA and Anganwadi workers to encourage women folks for institutional deliveries to avail benefits of various schemes and also maintain record of pregnant and lactating women.
Kumar exhorted on synchronization among various departments to celebrate ‘Laadli Diwas’ on 19th of every month as monthly event. He further directed ACD Kathua to construct IHHL for eligible women headed family on priority basis.
The meeting decided to identify market oriented training modules to impart required skill or vocational training to females to make them financially independent.
The CEO Kathua was directed to take initiatives like displaying the name of the outstanding girl child in every school on the notice board as ‘Girl of the Month’ to encourage female child. Gender ratio for all classes in the school shall be displayed. He was further directed to include vocational training programs in the current financial year.
