KATHUA, Jan 6: To discuss the implementation of flagship programme “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” , District Development Commissioner Kathua Ramesh Kumar held a meeting here at DC office complex today.
DDC threw light on the importance of sex ratio and the consequences of its imbalance. The meeting discussed in detail the measures for effective implementation of the scheme in the district for which a plan was rolled out with the aim to improve the sex ratio in the district. He disclosed that the sex ratio of 890:1000 ( as per 2011 census) which need to be improved.
District Level Committee under the chairmanship of ADDC Kathua (Nodal Officer for the District) whereas Block Level Committees under the chairmanship of Tehsildar were constituted. The SDMs will be the Nodal Officer for implementation of BBBP in their respective areas.
DDC informed that five mega awareness programmes in every tehsil will be held under which signature campaign, baby girl shows, nukkad nataks, painting competitions will be organized to educate and sensitize every stakeholders of the society. Under the mega awareness programme convergence of all Government schemes and banks to be disseminated for the education of common masses. The provision for on-spot issuance of income certificates for female applicants will be made.
Principals of educational institutions were also directed to organize rallies, debates, skits, painting and essay competitions on the theme to educate youth.
Health Department was instructed to strictly monitor 100 Gender Critical Villages and organize weekly special drives in such villages where health check up camps are to be held.
CEO Kathua is directed to take initiatives like displaying the name of the outstanding girl child in every school on the notice board as ‘Girl of the Month’ to encourage female child.
DDC called upon the officers to make all out efforts for smooth implementation of the plan so that the purpose of the mission can be achieved. He asked for having good coordination between the departments and PRIs to achieve desired results.
