JAMMU, June 5: Plantation drives and speeches marked the celebrations of World Environment Day.
In connection with the World Environment Day, Tourism Department organized an awareness programme at Mansar on the theme ‘Zero Pollution Emission’.
On the occasion, a Lake walk was organized which was flagged off by OP Bhagat, Director Tourism, Jammu in the presence of OP Sharma Vidyarthi, Director State Forest Research Institute.
During the lake walk, OP Sharma Vidyarthi conducted a tree talk and made the participants aware about the significance of environment and need for protection of wetlands. After the completion of lake walk, the participant along with the tourists enjoyed a scintillating cultural programme. Subash Brahmanu and party enthralled the audience with the folk songs and dances. Sarpanches and Panches of Mansar, Surinsar and Chani Panchayats also participated in the event. Nagendra Singh Jamwal, CEO SMDA, Ansuya Jamwal, Deputy Director Tourism, Rajan Singh, Warden Wildlife Department and Sheena Sahni, ADT were also present on the occasion.
Indian Institute of Management, Sirmaur organized one day programme titled “How to Manage You Waste Efficiently?” on the eve of World Environment Day.
The programme was inaugurated by Professor Neelu Rohmetra, Director, IIM Sirmaur. Professor Neelu Rohmetra interacted with the participants and emphasized the need of waste management, keeping the environment clean and the conservation of natural resources. Dr. Arpita Ghosh was the key resource person who conducted the sessions and engaged the participants in the hands-on activities.
The 50 participants representing different schools in Paonta Sahib and studying in 4th to 6th standards were specifically made aware of the dangers posed by air pollution, bursting crackers, garbage burning, plastic pollution, methods to decrease waste production, efficient segregation of produced wastes, necessity of reuse and recycling of wastes, etc.
The classroom sessions used pictures, audio visuals mode and quizzes to train the students. The programme also involved plantation drive, where the participants took part in planting saplings on the IIM Sirmaur campus. Further reusing of waste plastic bottles in the form of converting them into tubs and planting small saplings was demonstrated to the students. The programme ended with the distribution of certificates to the participants.
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jammu working under the administrative control of Sher-e Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu celebrated World environment Day, in which BSc agriculture final year students took part. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rakesh Sharma Incharge Senior Scientist and Head KVK Jammu putforth the importance of celebrating the Environment Day. Dr Punit Choudhary, Senior Scientist Agroforestry, KVK Jammu briefed the participants that World Environment Day is world most important day of the year for promoting awareness and action to protect the environment. On the occasion, the participating students also prepared potting mixture based on organic formulation that later on will be used on for raising pollution tolerant saplings of Ficus Religiosa (Pipal) and Ficus Bengalansis (Bargad). They also debated on the topic of reducing air pollution. Dr Sheetal Badyal, Dr Ravneet Kour and Dr Prem Kumar also put forth their views during the event. Programme Assistants Er Ashish Katoch, Poonam Abrol and Satvir singh were also present on the occasion. A plantation drive was also conducted on the occasion at Chimna Chak village with the support of KVK Jammu by ICICI foundation RS Pura where in Sham Lal, Additional Director J&K SRLM, Parvinder Singh, Community facilitator ICICI Foundation R S Pura and large number of skill trainees planted sapling of different multipurpose tree species in the village.
On the occasion of ‘World Environment Day’, the Akhnoor based Crossed Swords Division conducted tree plantation drive. Students from various schools of the region were involved in the plantation drive.
To commemorate World Environment Day, plantation program was organized by 166 Battalion CRPF in collaboration with Airport Authority of India. During the program, plants were distributed to children by CRPF with an appeal to plant more trees and save environment. Chief guest of the programme was Nitu, DIG CRPF Jammu Range. Pravat Ranjan Beuria, Director Airport Jammu, Ashish Kumar Jha, Commandant 166 Battalion CRPF, Anil Kumar Second-in-Command, Dr Amit Kumar CMO (OG), Deepak Choudhary Assistant Commandant, Rishi Pal Singh Assistant Commandant of 166 Battalion CRPF, Vijay Mishra, CSO Airport Jammu, Daljeet Singh DSP (AHJ) JKP and other officers and personnel of CRPF and various airlines also participated in the program.
The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre celebrated World Environment Day at Channi Himmat, here. A seminar on the theme “Air Pollution” was organized in which large number of engineers, scholars, academicians, environment lovers, and members of the civil society participated.
On the occasion Dr CM Seth, Member, AYUSH Review Committee, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India and former Chairman, WWF India and J&K State Pollution Control Board was the chief guest and Prof Raj K Rampal, HoD Environmental Sciences, University of Jammu & Er. Lalit Kumar Mengi, former Chief Engineer, PWD, R&B, Jammu were the guest of honour. At the outset of the function Er Ravi Chanyal, FIE Chairman, IEI, Jammu Centre appraised the audience about the theme and Er. Vijay Sharma, MIE, Honorary Secretary presented the welcome address. Seven Papers on the theme were presented by Er KR Suri, Er BL Rawal, Er Vinod Kumar, Er Sunil Seth, Er Ranjeev Sawhney, Er Khalid Tanveer and Er Akash Dusgotra.
Guiding and Counselling Cell Gurha Slathia Samba organized a free tour of youth at various natural places of Reasi District on World Environment Day. During the tour, the participants visited Naudevian Mata Katra, Dhansar Baba, Sula Park, Sair Baba etc. Chairman of the Cell Vir Partap Singh Slathia threw light on the motto of organizing this tour.
To commemorate World Environment Day, Nat Manch took up a plantation drive with slogan “Saanse Ho Rahi Hai Kum, Aao Ped Lagaye Hum” in the Jammu West. Nat Manch Founder and President Tarun Sharma along with Samba District President Ranjeet Singh and Ankit Gupta presented a plant of peach to Incharge Police Post Rehari SI Ashish Sagar.
A meeting was conveyed by senior members of “We The Human-Forum for Nature and Mankind” to commemorate World Environment Day. KYS Manhas, Retired Principal Secretary Law and Vice Chairman of Executive Body of the Trust gave a brief account of activities done during the past one year by the trust. Capt Lalit Sharma, the retired Addl PCCF and Secretary Technical of the Trust, Sahib Aggarwal, Advocate, Prem Singh Founder Member of the Trust and Tara Singh and Dwarka Sharma, environment activists of Supwal District Samba expressed their views on the occasion.
Aadarsh Bhartiya Samaj celebrated “World Environment Day”. On the occasion, Col (Retd) R K Sharma Chairman and Daljeet Singh President ABS expressed their views for facilitating safe environment.
The Civil Society for Development of Jammu and Kashmir organized awareness campaign on World Environment Day. The campaign was led by President Civil Society for Development of Jammu and Kashmir Puneet Singh Jamwal.
Bhartiya Kissan Parivar celebrated World Environment Day. The programme was organised by Director Bhartiya Kissan Parivar Tarun Uppal in which senior officials of BSF and spiritual leader Sahil Maharaj were present. A plantation drive was launched wherein Tarun Uppal along with Sahil Maharaj, IG BSF NS Jamwal and DIG BSF Jammu OP Upadhya planted saplings to promote green gold. During the programme, saplings were along distributed among participants. Among others who were present on the occasion included Commandant Medical BSF, SK Kumar, AD Medical, Rajveer Sharma and Rajeev Charak.
To commemorate World Environment Day, a program of planting and cleaning was organized at memorial of 2nd Lieutenant Arun Khetrapal (Param Vir Chakra posthumous) by Samba Social Club. All the members of the club jointly made an effort to make their city and society pollution free.
On this occasion, more than 50 volunteers and children took part in this programme. Club’s Head Sunil Gupta, Admin Ranju Gupta, Ajay Singh, Kamal Kumar, Tilak Raj, Fakir Chand, Om Gupta, Tara Chand, Ravindra, Dr Vyas Dogra and many others were present. Later, the youth of Samba Social Club along with Municipal Committee Samba organized an awareness rally from the Chouhatta Chowk of the main bazaar Samba.
To celebrate the World Environment Day on the theme “Air Pollution”, different organisation working in Leh organized various events in Leh.
The main event was organised at Leh Market by Ladakh Ecological Development Group (LEDeG) in collaboration with All Ladakh Tour Operator Association (ALTOA), Ladakh Taxi Operators Cooperative Limited and Ladakh Heart Foundation to sensitise the people about negative effects of air pollution on our health. Municipal Committee Leh (MCL) President Dr Eshey Namgyal was chief guest on the occasion. LEDeG Executive Director Eshey Tundup, ALTOA President Tsetan Angchuk, Taxi Operator General Secretary Stanzin Dasal and other guest also spoke on the occasion.
Culture programme and environmental related skit were also part of programme to entertain the public. Claus from Germany representing Amitabha Tour demonstrated about harmful effects of plastic and advised the public to recycle, reuse and refused plastics.
PAGIR Society member also celebrated the occasion by holding debate, cleaning drive and plantation drive in their campus.
State Bank of India led by Rana Ashutosh Kumar Singh Chief General Manager Chandigarh Circle organized mass plantation drive at Jamyang School to mark the occasion. Additional Deputy Commissioner Sachin Kumar also present during the plantation drive.
Holding banners and placard Women Alliance of Ladakh (WAL) led by its President Tsering Chondol organized a rally from WAL Office to Leh market to educate the public to avoid using plastics.
