Play ‘Dozakh’ staged at Bikaner Theatre Fest

JAMMU, Oct 18: In the ongoing 7th Bikaner Theatre Festival in Rajasthan, Samooh Theatre staged the play ‘Dozakh’ which is an adaptation of Sir Willam Shakespeare’s Othello, adapted and directed by Ravinder Sharma.
A total of 25 plays will be performed in this festival from across the country.
The play Dozakh revolves around Ayub who is a warrior in Indian army and secretly marries a beautiful daughter (Iltiza) of royal family. When Iltiza’s mother knows this she becomes furious and decides to disown Iltiza.
Kumar has a secret jealousy and resentment towards Ayub. Waiting on revenge, Kumar plans a devious come back to plant suspicions in Ayub’s mind that Iltiza has been having an affair with Kashav.
He decided a street fight which Kashav is blamed for, and is then dismissed from his post by Ayub. Iltiza takes up Kashav’s case with her husband only to increase his suspicions.
Kumar also manages to find a treasured handkerchief from Iltiza that was given to her by Ayub. He somehow gets the handkerchief on Keshav so that Ayub sees it to conclude that the possession is proof of the affair.
He orders Kumar to murder Kashav and decides to strangle Iltiza but immediately her innocence is revealed and Kumar’s treachery exposed. In a fit of grief Ayub kills himself.
The actors who performed in the play were Goutam Sharma, Aashima Dutta, Mukesh Bakshi, Radhika Sharma, Sandeep Manhas, Vishali, Ajay Tamangh, Vinay Sharma, Rohit Bains, Imran Ahmed, Yeshvinder, Yogeshwar and Ravi Dhar.
Make-up was done by Shammi Dhamir, Music by Prof. Kuldeep Raina, Light Design by Ravinder Sharma and Costumes and Sets were look after by Pooja Sharma.
