JAMMU, Mar 6: Natraj Natya Kunj Jammu staged Play ‘Ghalib in Quarantine’ at the ongoing 20th National Theatre Festival organized by Punjab Sangeet Natak Akademi in collaboration with North Zone Cultural Centre Patiala and Amandeep Hospital at Amritsar.
The Theatre Festival was organized by ‘Manch Rangmanch Amritsar’.
Director of the Play Abhishek Bharti said the play is about a present-day character, who in order to pass time during the pandemic lockdown discovers Ghalib through his letters and poetry and also enacts selective facets of the poet’s life.
Written by Roheet Verma and directed by Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Abhishek Bharti, this musical play emerged as an ode to poetic genius of Mirza Ghalib and a peep into his time and era.
Congratulating the visiting team, president Punjab Sangeet Natak Akademi, Kewal Dhaliwal said the play offered an entertaining mix of live recitation of Ghalib’s selected poems and couplets and by the lead actor who made a mark by the impressive dramatization of episodes from the celebrated poet’s life emerged as one of the best productions of the festival.
Character of Mirza Ghalib was enacted by Balwinder Singh. Music Composer was Vishal Pandita. Set of the play was designed by Virji Sumbli. Costumes were designed by Anu Thakur while lights were designed and executed by Aaditya Bharti.
Singers were Vishal Pandita and Anjali Sharma while Rhythmists were Nitish Kumar and Vineet Raina.
The play was designed and directed by Abhishek Bharti.
