To cultivate rural prowess and materialise Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary ambition of erecting foundational sports infrastructure, a playground has been meticulously fashioned in the hamlet of Roun in Udhampur district. The locals, exhibiting commendable benevolence, contributed their land to manifest this rural sports haven. This sporting enclave fulfils a protracted yearning of around four thousand denizens spanning Roun-1 and Roun-2 Panchayats. In a testament to the adage that where there is a will, there is a way, the villagers have exemplified the indomitable spirit that renders the seemingly insurmountable achievable. Spearheaded by their sarpanch, coupled with substantial assistance from diverse Governmental Departments, the efforts have culminated in the establishment of a grassroots playground in the locale. The burgeoning enthusiasm for sports activities among the youth of these two villages marks a transformative epoch. This achievement, however, signifies not the terminus but rather the commencement of an ambitious journey, as the villagers ardently aspire to metamorphose the nascent facility into a fully-fledged stadium with time. The incorporation of solar lighting, water amenities, covered spaces, and the orchestration of diverse sporting events now manifest as tangible realities enriching the lives of the local youth.
Recognising the pivotal role of sports in honing the potential of the younger generation, the initiative assumes paramount importance. The effective channelling of their exuberant energy becomes imperative, and the dearth of facilities and infrastructure has, regrettably, steered the youth towards deleterious pursuits, notably a proclivity for substance abuse. The laudable efforts of the Sarpanch, a retired Subedar from the armed forces, demand special acknowledgement, as it was his visionary impetus that crystallised into the development of sports infrastructure, conceived as a formidable antidote to the pervasive menace of drug addiction. The introduction of positivity, in the guise of sports, holds the promise of a transformative impact on the lives of the local youth. The journey, undoubtedly, was fraught with challenges, yet the collective tenacity of the villagers has translated the aspirational vision into a palpable reality.
