Water reservoir tank in Zirhama village in Kupwara district has not been cleaned by the concerned water supply agency for last twenty years and the result is that over 1000 people have been taken ill owing to contaminated water they have been drinking. Why not the responsible officials should be brought to book and charged with the crime of playing with the lives of innocent people. Fortunately, medical assistance was provided in time and the lives of these people were saved otherwise it could have ended up in a big disaster. The medical officer has certified that the water is contaminated after it was tested. A case should be framed against the water supply agency of the said area and the law should take its course. At the same time, an alert should be sounded for all water supplying units in the area that they should take extraordinary care of keeping supply of drinking water safe from contamination. It has also to be said that there can be miscreants who would play a mischief and incite public protest by attempting to impair the health of people.
