Sir,
This has reference to the news item introducing local history, culture in school curriculum’ DE Nov 11.
It is quite heartening to know that the newly appointed Chairman of JK BOSE Dr Nutan K Resutra in initiating some reforms in school education by including local history and cultural ethos in the curriculum. These steps are welcome as it is quite necessary to keep syllabus updated so that student community could meet modern challenges.
The chairman has many more challenges to meet during his tenure. One challenge is to conduct class X and Class XII exams in a fair manner. The examinations conducted by Board have come under a cloud during last three to four years. Last year, one witnessed a number of paper leak cases. Many examinations had to be cancelled and conducted a new. This caused too much consternation among students community and their parents. The exams have to be conducted and in a fair manner so that the future of meritorious candidates is saved. Besides, the evaluation system too needs to be looked into. The marking system is quite shoddy. There are many students whose career got a severe beating due to faulty evaluation system. It takes almost six to nine months to get paper re-evaluated during which time a student loses one precious year.
One hopes that the chairman look into the matter earnestly.
Yours etc….
