State’s industrial sector reeling under several pressures needs a few facilities from the Government. At least, those which have been already promised but are not supported by proper notifications. To ponder over this issue , Bari Brahmana Industrial Association (BBIA) convened a meeting recently where mainly the focus was power amnesty. The State Assembly has already approved of the proposal during its Budget Session but so far the notification has not been issued .
The Finance Minister must look into it and arrange to issue a notification in respect of power amnesty for industrial sector of Jammu and Kashmir. The Budget for 2018-19 duly contained details about the power amnesty at points number 112, 113 and 114 which were duly approved by the House.
The contours of the “amnesty” are waiving of interest and penalty on all the power revenue arrears owned to the Government by industrial units . This was going to boost the tempo and the zeal in the existing units plus the sick units too would get some respite.
In the meeting, entrepreneurs expressed surprise that when such notification was already issued under the VAT and General Sales Tax Act, why it was not issued in respect of the power revenue arrears and, therefore, impressed upon the Government, in particular Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, the Dy. Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh and the Finance Minister Altaf Bukhari to intervene in the matter so that the amnesty related notification was issued at the earliest.
