Sir,
Jammu & Kashmir State Board of School Education is on the threshold of shaping the career of our young generation. Notwithstanding many initiatives taken by the Board in the interest of the student community, there are many lacuna in the functioning of the Board that amount to playing with the future of the students. The examples of errors in question papers are galore. Many of the evaluators evaluate answer sheets casually without applying their mind. To add to it, the concerned authorities take so called corrective decisions whimsically that end up in adding to the injustice than doing any justice.
Take the example of the Economics paper of HSP(II) of the ongoing annual examination of the summer zone. There were errors in the questions that led to confusion among the students. As the brilliant students failed to understand the first part of Q No. 2 and 4 they attempted their alternatives. Astonishingly, the Board authorities have reportedly decided to grant six grace marks to each question to those students who attempted the first parts and not to those who attempted their alternatives in absence of understanding first parts. Such students have been further subjected to injustice.
It is impressed upon the Board authorities to revisit their decision and award grace marks to all those who attempted these questions.
Yours etc….
S M Pandit
