Plebiscite only option to resolve Kashmir issue, initiate talks with militants: Rashid

SRINAGAR: Claiming that plebiscite is the only option to resolve Kashmir issue once and for all, Independent MLA Abdul Rashid said today that till this political dispute is resolved, human rights violations and killings of civilians will continue in the Valley.

He asked the Government to initiate talks with militant outfits to persuade them to shun violence. Er Rashid, taking part in the discussion on the grants for Home Department in the Legislative Assembly, reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir is not an integral part of India and no matter what happens, he will continue to say that it is a disputed territory.

“I’m not blaming Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti or National Conference leader Omar Abdullah for human rights violations during their tenure because this State is in a condition where political issues are unresolved and due to which killings happen,” he said.

With an obvious reference to Bhatariya Janata Party (BJP), he said, “if you are certain that J&K is an integral part of India and you want to merge the Kashmir which is on the other side, why are you afraid to organize a plebiscite.

“If you believe that J&K is an integral part of India, I don’t have any problem with it. You can kill me, injure me, but I will continue to say that this is a disputed area. If you say that you want to integrate Kashmir which is on the other side, do that. You say that they are not satisfied with Pakistan, then you should order a plebiscite, why are you afraid,” he said.
