Prez, Dr Jitendra, LG, others condole deaths in mishap

JAMMU, Mar 29: President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior functionaries of the Government and political leaders have expressed condolences over the loss of 10 lives in a road accident at Ramban district of this region in wee hours of this morning.
President Droupadi Murmu mourning the loss of lives in Ramban mishap conveyed her condolences to the bereaved families.
“The news of people getting killed after a vehicle fell into a gorge in the Ramban area on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is very sad. I offer my condolences to the bereaved families,” Murmu said in a post in Hindi on X.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi while expressing grief over the accident in Ramban announced ex-gratia of Rs two lakh from PMNRF for next of kin of each deceased.
A post on X by the PMO India said Modi has expressed grief on the accident in Ramban and extended condolences to the bereaved families.
Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Dr Jitendra Singh, who is also Lok Sabha member from the area, spoke to Deputy Commissioner Ramban Baseer-ul-Haq after learning about the tragic road accident near Battery Chasma in Ramban and asked him to ensure shifting of the bodies to their homes.
Dr Jitendra Singh took stock of the situation.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has also expressed shock and grief over the loss of 10 lives.
In his condolence message, the LG said: “I am deeply shocked to learn of the unfortunate road accident in Ramban today, in which precious lives have been lost. I send my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.”
Sinha said he has issued instructions to the district administration and Divisional Commissioner to render all assistance to the kin of the victims.
Democratic Progressive Azad Party chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families.
“Deeply saddened by the loss of 10 lives in a tragic road accident as a passenger taxi rolled down a deep gorge near Battery Chasma in Ramban district,” the former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister said.
He said the commendable rescue efforts by NGOs from Ramban, Banihal and Ramsoo, along with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and police, are appreciated. “My heartfelt condolences to the families affected by this tragedy,” Azad added.
National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah have also expressed profound grief over the loss of lives in Ramban road mishap and impressed upon the administration to reach out to the affected families with adequate relief and compensation.
Expressing grief over the unfortunate accident, Omar said, “A terrible tragedy as our highway claims more precious lives. We eagerly await the day when the promised four lane highway is completed and people are able to undertake this journey with the assurance of greater safety. May the souls of the deceased rest in peace.”
Expressing anguish over the mishap and the loss of precious lives there, Dr. Farooq said, “Jammu-Srinagar highway stretch in Ramban has become a death trap. In the last few years, hundreds of people have lost their lives, leaving their families shattered. The concerned authorities must look into both the causes and take serious measures to prevent occurrence of the accidents. Meantime, district administration Ramban should reach out to the affected with adequate relief and compensation.”
CPM leader M Y Tarigami too has condoled the loss of lives in the accident.
“Heartbroken by the tragic accident on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, which claimed the lives of ten persons. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. I urge the Government to provide adequate compensation to the next of kin of the victims,” Targamis said.
