JAMMU, Oct 31: Former minister and senior NC leader Ajay Kumar Sadhotra has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has disappointed people of Jammu and Kashmir over splitting the state of Jammu and Kashmir into Union Territories under the garb of abrogation of Article 370 & 35A of the Indian Constitution.
In a press statement here today Sadhotra said that people of Jammu and Kashmir have pinned their hope on the Prime Minister that Modi shall declare Jammu & Kashmir as state not Union Territory on October 31 from Sardar Patel Statue at Gujarat. The people are feeling humiliated and are sore specially younger lot. He termed disappointing people of Jammu & Kashmir as unfortunate and described this event as darkest chapter in the history of J&K.
He said the logic of BJP that Union Territory is panacea for all ills is unfounded. If it has any substance then all the states of the country should be declared Union Territories. In our Country Union Territories have been upgraded to states or states been bifurcated to two states but state never bifurcated to Union Territory. Why Jammu & Kashmir State has been downgraded into Union Territory is not understandable and unacceptable, said Sadhotra.
NC leader said the people of Jammu & Kashmir are feeling too much hurt especially from Jammu region as they feel that BJP is taking Jammu for granted.
The State Reorganization Commission in 1956 had thought of a separate category for those territories that cannot survive as separate state being economically unbalanced financially weak, administration and politically unstable and had to be dependent on Union Government so Union Territory is formed. In case of Jammu & Kashmir none of the conditions of 1956 State Reorganization Commission prevail.
