JAMMU, Aug 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today distributed 51,000 appointment letters to the youth virtually through Rozgar Mela organized at 45 locations across the country including Jammu and Srinagar as he stated that the Indian economy is on the path of rapid growth leading to creation of big employment opportunities for the youth.
In Jammu, Union Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region and Cooperation BL Verma and in Srinagar Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Kumar Mishra distributed appointment orders among the youth at the respective BSF Headquarters.
Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Dr Jitendra Singh, Incharge Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), coordinated the programme.
The Prime Minister referred to the new recruits as ‘Amrit Rakshak’, who will not only serve the country but will also protect it. It may be mentioned here that most of the appointment orders issued today were in Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) of the Union Home Ministry.
“Automobile, pharma, tourism and food processing sectors were expected to grow at a rapid pace and open up employment opportunities for the youth. India has emerged as the fastest growing economy and would soon be among the top three economies in the world during this decade and bring benefits to the common man,” the Prime Minister said while addressing the Rozgar Mela

Modi had launched the ‘Rozgar Mela’ on October 22 last year. Under Mission Recruitment, so far eight Rozgar Melas have been organised across the country. A total of 5,51,663 vacancies have been filled up in this campaign comprising nearly one lakh females.
The Rozgar Mela is a step towards fulfilment of the commitment of the Prime Minister to accord highest priority to employment generation. It is expected to act as a catalyst in further employment generation and provide meaningful opportunities to the youth for their empowerment and participation in national development.
Modi said the tourist sector along was expected to contribute Rs 20 lakh crore to the economy by 2030 and had the potential to create 13-14 crore new jobs.
Citing the example of the pharmaceutical industry, the Prime Minister said the sector worth Rs four lakh crore at present is expected to grow to Rs 10 lakh crore by 2030.
“The food processing industry, which was worth approximately Rs 26 lakh crore last year, was bound to rise to Rs 35 lakh crore in the next three-and-a-half years. With expansion comes increased employment opportunities,” he added.
Modi said India clocking record exports last year was a sign of the increased demand for Indian made goods in the global market.
He noted that production has gone up, employment has increased and the income of the family has seen a rise.
India, he said, has become the second largest mobile manufacturing nation in the world and the country was now focusing on other electronic gadgets.
Union Minister of State in the PMO Dr Jitendra Singh, Incharge DoPT, who coordinated the `Rozgar Mela’, gave credit to PM Modi for having created an environment where employment does not mean Government jobs alone.
“Startups have shot up from 350-400 to about 1.25 lakhs. Prime Minister opened the Space sector and the Startups in Space sector from just 4 to 150, and the Chandrayaan has also landed on the moon. The unemployed benefitted with the Mudra scheme enabling the youth to start their enterprises while street vendors gained from the Prime Minister SVANidhi scheme,” he said.
Dr Jitendra Singh said even the recruitment in Government sector has grown manifold in the nine years of this Government compared to the previous nine years.
“Compared to six lakh Government jobs in the first nine years of the previous Government, during PM Modi’s tenure, nine lakh jobs have been filled up during the same period, an increase of about 60-70%,” he said.
He said the SSC recruited just two lakh youth in the previous nine years, while more than double, viz 4,00,691 vacancies have been filled up. RRB recruited 3,37,291 employees during 2004-2013, while 4,30,594 recruitments were made between 2014-2023. UPSC filled up 45,431 vacancies earlier, while 50,906 have been cleared under PM Modi’s tenure.
Dr Jitendra Singh said that PM Modi streamlined the process of promotions, giving momentum to the process that was either stalled or had slowed down earlier.
“In CSS, just 40 promotions were effected at Joint Secretary level during 2004-2013, this figure shot up 166% to 107 in the first nine years of this Government. At Director level, this figure jumped by 115% to 791 from 349 during the comparative period. At ASO level, the figures jumped by 43% to 4,461 during 2014-2023 from 3,119 during 2004-2013,” he said.
In Jammu, Union Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region and Cooperation B L Verma said the Centre has distributed job letters to 5.5 lakh youth since last October and aims to provide 10 lakh jobs by year-end.
Addressing the Rozgar Mela at the Border Security Force (BSF) headquarters at Paloura, Verma handed over appointment letters to 250 candidates, out of a total of 1,000 selected for various Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) such as BSF, CRPF CISF, SSB, and ITBP.
Verma said the Rozgar Mela scheme is part of the Government’s efforts to abate unemployment in the country.
“In October 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a commitment that 10 lakh jobs will be given to youth by December 2023. By this time, we have provided job letters to 5.5 lakh youth,” he said.
He added that in the days to come, the Prime Minister will deliver what he has promised to the youth of this country.
BSF officials at the event here said this recruitment drive will significantly help the country’s security forces to conduct their operations more efficiently and effectively and better manage a wide range of security duties across the entire country.
In Srinagar, Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Kumar Mishra handed over the appointment letters to newly inducted recruits of J&K under “Rozgar Mela” at BSF campus.
Addressing Jawans at BSF Campus in Srinagar, Mishra said that the world was not aware about India before 2014 and today everybody is praising India for its achievements and capacity in various fields. Prime Minister, Ministers and other dignitaries who went wherever in the world introduced India’s achievements and capacities to the world and that has changed the scenario altogether today.
He said India has become the centre of the world after its achievements in various fields and that has also doubled our responsibilities.
