JAMMU, May 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today gave away 71,000 appointment letters through video conferencing to the youth at a ‘Rozgar Mela’ held at over 45 locations across the country including Jammu saying changes brought by the Central Government in recruitment system have ended possibility of corruption and nepotism.
Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Dr Jitendra Singh conducted the programme held in New Delhi while Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Kailash Choudhary physically delivered the letters to 101 youth at Jammu Convention Centre here.
The newly recruited candidates in Jammu will join the Department of Posts, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Canara Bank, Jammu & Kashmir Grameen Bank and the Department of Water Resources and River Development.
“From applying for Government jobs to the announcement of results, the entire process has been made online, Modi said while elaborating on employment opportunities and infrastructure development ushered in by the BJP dispensation at the Centre in the last nine years.
Worthwhile to mention here that results for 2014 Lok Sabha elections were also declared on May 16 in which the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had bagged clear majority for the first time winning 282 seats. Today was ninth anniversary of the election results.
As per the officials, the ‘Rozgar Melas’ will be made a regular exercise across the country including the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
“This will give boost to employment opportunities,” sources said, adding that more and more Government departments are coming forward with advertisement of vacancies and recruitment on fast track basis to absorb unemployed youth.
This is third ‘Rozgar Mela’ in Jammu and Kashmir, the first being on November 22, 2022 which was also inaugurated by the Prime Minister through video conferencing and later the Union Ministers distributed appointment letters to the candidates at different places including Jammu and Srinagar. The second such Mela was held on April 13, 2023 where Union Minister Krishan Pal Gurjar distributed letters here after the Prime Minister’s address to the new recruits.
“The journey which started with the spirit of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ is working for a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (developed India),” the Prime Minister said.
He referred to his recent meetings with CEOs of leading global companies, including Walmart, Apple, Foxconn and Cisco, to assert that there is “unprecedented positivity” about industry and investment in the country.
Modi cited EPFO net payroll figures to say that over 4.5 crore people have got jobs since 2018-19 as formal employment has been growing.
“The country has seen a revolution in the Start-up sector and their numbers have risen to nearly a lakh from a few hundred before 2014, the year the BJP came to power at the Centre, he said, adding that they are estimated to have provided a minimum 10 lakh jobs.
Rozgar Melas by the Governments at the Centre and BJP-ruled States show their commitment towards the youth, he said, asserting that it has prioritised the recruitment process in the last nine years by making it faster, transparent and unbiased.
“The possibility of corruption and nepotism in recruitment for Government jobs has now ended,” Modi said. Interviews for Group C and Group D have also been abolished, he added.
Highlighting the difficulties faced in the recruitment process earlier, he said the Staff Selection Board used to take 15-18 months for new recruitment while it takes only six to eight months now.
The speed and scale of country’s development metrics are unprecedented in the history of Independent India. In the last nine years, 40,000 km of rail lines got electrified compared to 20,000 km in the seven decades before that, the Prime Minister said.
Construction of over 4 crore pucca houses under a Government housing scheme for the poor has also created a lot of employment opportunities, Modi said.
He also said that the number of universities has grown to 1,100 from around 720 in 2014 while there are now 700 Medical Colleges against 400 earlier.
Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, in his welcome address, informed that this is the fifth in the series of Rozgar Mela, conducted by the DoPT, and appointments are being made by different Ministries and Departments including Ministries of Defence, Home Affairs, External Affairs, Communication, Education, Atomic Energy etc.
The Minister also informed that Mission Karmayogi Prarambh has been associated with the Rozgar Mela since the last two series that has helped new employees gain induction training.
Lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the people of the country do not seek jobs in the Government sector alone.
“Rozgar does not imply Government jobs alone, new and better paying, productive career prospects have been opened with the initiatives undertaken by PM Modi, he said.”
Meanwhile, in Jammu, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Kailash Choudhary today distributed 101 appointment letters to the newly recruited candidates selected for jobs in various Government departments and organisations here.
Choudhary congratulated the candidates and said the youth has a great role to play in the development of the country across all sectors.
“The youth will define India after 25 years when the country will be celebrating its freedom centenary,” the Minister said.
The youth are an asset of the nation and their contribution can help overtake the best economies of the world in the next few years, he added.
The Minister said the youth must become job givers and not job seekers as many opportunities have been created by the Central Government to encourage such development through various schemes like ‘Stand-Up India’ and ‘Startup India’.
Choudhary also said that the youth have made the country proud by being at the top most positions in world-class companies across medicine, technology and IT sectors.”
Later, speaking to reporters, Choudhary said the BJP is open to welcoming any leader who believes in the ideology of the party.
His statement comes amid a tussle between Congress leaders Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot in Rajasthan.
“There is no rejection to anyone who has a grassroots connect coming to the BJP fold,” Choudhary said.
He said common people of Rajasthan are bearing the brunt of the tussle between Pilot and Gehlot.
Gehlot is busy trying to save his chair as elections approach, he said.
“There is no refusal to anyone who joins the BJP and believes in our ideology,” he said when asked about the possibility of dissident Congress leader Pilot joining the BJP.
Choudhary alleged the Rajasthan Government is deeply mired in corruption, while law and order situation was deteriorating and women remain unsafe.
“This is not what we have said. It is what his (Gehlot) legislators and Ministers are saying,” he said.
Accusing the Gehlot Government of pursuing a politics of “appeasement”, Choudhary said people were waiting for the upcoming Assembly elections to remove it.
