‘Terror-hit area transformed to tourism hotspot’

JAMMU, May 14: Claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ushered a new era of development in Jammu Kashmir and his Government was committed to the peace and prosperity of the region, BJP National General Secretary and the party in-charge for J&K and Ladakh, Tarun Chugh said that the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019 paved the way for greater integration and progress of Jammu and Kashmir.

“After the abrogation of Article 370, the region has witnessed a significant decline in militancy-related incidents, leading to improved peace and stability. There is no more stone pelting by the youth and it has also strengthened the sense of national unity. Now, the region has been transformed from a terrorist-inflicted area to a tourism hotspot resulting in a rise in revenue and employment opportunities for the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he told the Excelsior in an exclusive interview.
Further, Chugh said that the impact has been multifaceted as the abrogation has opened up new opportunities for investment and investors now see J&K as a viable destination, leading to job creation and economic growth. Besides, he added, the abrogation of Article 370 has ensured gender equality by empowering women through granting them equal property rights while Valmikis have got reservation for the first time.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to ensuring that J&K becomes a model of growth and prosperity. His Government remains steadfast in its commitment to elevate J&K to the same level as other State in India where people live with peace and prosperity,” said the BJP leader while listing welfare schemes like Ayushman Bharat which has been 100 percent successfully implemented in J&K.
Exuding confidence that India will vote for Modi with a resounding victory of 400 seats this time, Chugh said that track record of Modi governance in the past decade speaks for itself. “Under Modi’s visionary leadership, India’s economy has surged and significant strides have been made in various sectors. People recognize the Prime Minister’s dedication to development, national security and welfare. PM Modi’s charisma, effective governance and welfare programs have contributed to the BJP’s electoral triumphs. His popularity extends beyond national elections to state- level victories,” he claimed.
In response to a query, Chugh said that the BJP’s ‘Modi ki guarantee’ 2024 manifesto outlines a comprehensive vision for India’s development and the party was committed to expanding policies that benefit various social groups, including women, youth, farmers, street vendors and marginalized communities such as SC, ST, and OBC.
“Our guiding principle is ‘Antyodaya,’ which emphasizes service to the last person in the queue. The manifesto represents the collective goals and aspirations of our nation, for our nation and by our nation. Over the past decade, PM Modi has ensured that every promise made is fulfilled. Under his able leadership, we pledge to work tirelessly toward making our nation a Viksit Bharat by 2047,” he said.
Stressing that the Modi Government has worked with the motto of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas,” Tarun Chugh listed pro-people initiatives of the BJP Government and said that PM Modi has focused on providing affordable healthcare, education, and financial inclusion. “Besides PMJAY scheme benefits to over 12 crores poor and vulnerable families, the Government is giving free food grains to approximately 80 crore beneficiaries under PMGKAY for a period of five years. Additionally, his commitment to rural development, electrification, and sanitation has uplifted the lives of many. According to a recent NITI Aayog report, in the last decade, around 25 crore people in India have come out of poverty,” he explained.
The BJP leader further said that the Modi Government has a number of achievements like the Digital India campaign transforming the country’s digital landscape, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Make in India initiative promoting India as a global manufacturing hub, Startup India, Skill India etc.
