NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will leave for Tashkent, Uzbekistan shortly to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Summit, on which he is slated to meet and convince Chinese President Xi Jinping over India’s bid for the membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group.
Mr Modi has a packed day-long programme, as he departs at 1100 hrs and will enter into discussions immediately after his arrival in Uzbek capital.
“The Prime Minister will have bilateral meeting with the Chinese President at 1700 (local time),” sources in the MEA said.
The top most agenda of his meeting with Mr Xi is predictable as the meeting would be taking place around the same time when the plenary of the NSG starts discussion on the application of India’s entry into the group at Seoul, South Korea.
After meeting with Mr Xi, the Prime Minister will call on Uzbek President Islam Karimov.
Mr Modi will take part in the Official Welcome Ceremony of SCO Summit, followed by Gala Concert and Leaders Dinner.
The formal process India’s accession to the SCO will commence at Tashkent after New Delhi inks the Obligation document. (AGENCIES)
