NEW DELHI, Nov 2: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Rajya Sabha, Gulam Ali Khatana today presented the keynote address at the two-day long national seminar on “Socio-economic Transformation, Inclusive and Sustainable Development.” The event was organized by the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, under the aegis of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.
In his opening remarks, Gulam Ali Khatana highlighted the remarkable socio-economic transformation that has taken place in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir following the historic abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35A. The discussion primarily centered around the significant improvements in socio-political and economic conditions, with a particular focus on the welfare of Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBCs), and those residing along the International Border.
MP Khatana underscored the far-reaching changes that have been implemented to promote inclusive development and uplift the marginalized communities. Notable measures mentioned in his speech include political reservations for Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes (OBC) in local bodies, Panchayats and the Assembly, ensuring their active participation in the democratic process. Additionally, citizenship rights have been granted to West Pakistan refugees, Gorkhas, Valmikis, and women who had married outside the State, marking a significant milestone after seven decades of Indian Independence.
He commended the leadership of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and his Government for their commitment to the development of the region. Under their stewardship, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a surge in developmental activities. The introduction of geo-tagging for local produce, such as Saffron, Pashmina, Basohli paintings, and Basmati rice, has been a pivotal step towards enhancing the visibility and accessibility of these unique products, both within India and on the international stage.
Khatana shed light on the positive transformations that have taken place in Jammu and Kashmir, fostering socio-economic development, inclusivity, and sustainable progress in the region.
The seminar, organized by the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, has brought together experts, scholars, and policymakers to deliberate on these crucial issues, providing a platform for meaningful discussions and insights that can drive progress in the socio-economic landscape of the Union Territory.
