KOLKATA, June 2: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today laid the foundation of the unified campus of the Bose Institute in Salt Lake.
The new campus will bring all departments and research activities of the Institute, founded by celebrated scientist Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose, under one roof.
The unified campus of the Institute is likely to be fully operational within next two years, Institute sources said.
The Prime minister left the venue shortly after laying the foundation without making any speech.
West Bengal Governor M K Narayan, state’s Commerce and Industries Minister Partha Chatterjee, Finance Minister Amit Mitra and Panchayat Minister Subrata Mukherjee were present at the brief function.
Union Science and Technology Minister Vilas Rao Deshmukh was also present.
The Prime Minister wrote in the visitor’s book that “Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose was pioneer in ushering in a new area of modern science in our century. May his shining example of dedication to science continue to inspire our people for ages to come”.
Later he had an interaction with junior scientists, faculty members and research scholars of the institute.
The unified campus would be set up at a cost of Rs 100 crore and would be ready by 2014. (PTI)
