Srinagar, Nov 30: Cabinet Minister Satish Sharma today stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lt Governor Manoj Sinha are committed to empowering Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking with reporters after attending a ‘Health Conclave’ here, the Minister expressed optimism, emphasizing that J&K deserves to regain what was taken from it.
“Both the Prime Minister and the LG are focused on empowering the people of J&K. Omar also visited Delhi regarding this matter. We will approach it within our capacity, with Omar’s permission. We simply want what has been taken from us-nothing more, nothing less,” he said.

The Minister added, “I believe something positive is on the horizon. We should regain statehood. That is our only demand.”
When asked about the coordination between the LG and CM offices, the Minister expressed confidence in its improvement, highlighting the LG’s positive attitude and intent to deliver results.
“We want a strong nation and a strong J&K state. The synergy between the LG and CM offices will improve. LG is a positive individual, coming from a political background. We do not want a situation like Delhi here,” he remarked.
On the fulfillment of promises made to the people, particularly regarding an increase in the ration quota and gas cylinders, he hinted at an upcoming New Year surprise.
“We have worked out a plan, discussed it with Omar and will soon share it with the public. We have consulted all stakeholders, including officials in Delhi, as the funding will come from there,” he said, adding, “We are by the people and for the people.”
Addressing healthcare, the Minister acknowledged the urgent need for affordable medical services in J&K.
“There is a pressing need to attract reputable private players to improve healthcare in the region. The current state of healthcare is poor, and the Government alone has limited capacity to address this,” he noted.
He further elaborated on the challenges post-COVID, stating, “The pandemic has led to various complications. Additionally, over the past 30 years, J&K has faced unique challenges-whether due to foreign elements or internal disturbances. Few regions have endured what we have.”
While acknowledging gaps in the existing system, the Minister emphasized the Government’s intent to collaborate with private players through public-private partnerships.
“These private players, however, must extend their services to rural and remote areas to bridge the gaps. In return, they will receive necessary facilitation to ensure effective service delivery,” he said.
